From pastry baker to IT director
This time 30 years ago I was a baker. This career was brought to an abrupt end by a serious car accident, leading to a disability in my right arm. What did I do? I chose to reinvent myself and reshape my life.
After retraining in IT, I started work as an IT specialist. After being promoted to IT manager and then IT Director, I opted for a career as a freelance consultant and coach.
From IT to change
While trying to find my way freelancing, I reflected on my career. The common theme I noted was that projects only tended to succeed when enough attention was paid to the human side of change. After all, every project brings change for at least one person.
During my own change process, I did not get – or accept – enough guidance, so I was well aware of the impact a lack of guidance can have. This was my eureka moment, and I decided to change where I was heading again – from then on, I would guide organisations going though changes. Now, after more than ten years involving many fascinating training courses and successful projects, the work still brings me joy.
